Container Overview
Monday, May 20th - 13:00 CDT
This session will introduce the concept of containers as a deployment technology and how PeopleSoft has added support for container-based deployments of PeopleSoft Images. We will explore the concepts of building container images, using podman and podman-compose to deploy containers, and how the PeopleSoft has integrated the DPKs into their container deployments. The concepts covered in this session will be used in the Container Lab.

Monday, May 20th - 13:30-16:30 CDT
The Container Lab will walk through the process of creating PeopleSoft-based containers that was introduced in PeopleTools 8.61. The lab will start by running a command-line PeopleTools patch against a database, deploying a PS_HOME to prepare for container builds, and then building both midtier and search containers. The Lab will also review the current container support and how PeopleSoft Administrators can enhance and improve the build process.

PeopleSoft Administrators are responsible for managing many different secrets. Using vaults and other secrets tools is a great way to automate deployments and administration in a secure way. In this session we will cover different approaches to managing things like tokens, passwords, and certificates in a secure, encrypted way. The concepts covered in this session will be used in the PeopleSoft Secrets Management Lab.

The PeopleSoft Secrets Management Lab will walk through examples of managing secrets in PeopleSoft. We will be using Vaultwarden as a passwords manager to create and retrieve secrets in an automated and secure way. The lab will cover approaches to rotating passwords both in configuration files and in the database. We will also cover examples of pulling passwords from vaults for use in command line tools like Data Mover, ACM, Change Assistant, and more. Finally, we will cover a short secrets task list of things every administrator should be doing for secure deployments of PeopleSoft.
